Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."
This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Large Open Daisy Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt. Five leaves support a full blossom facing forward with 10 veined petals. Exceptionally bright and shiny cobalt. Stands 14 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1" chip on the spout that appears to be in the making, a 3/4" chip on the bottom edge on the right side, and a light stain to the right of the bottom of the floral. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
