Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Bennett & Chollar, Homer."
This is the work of Lucius Bennett and Thomas Chollar who worked together in Homer, N.Y. from 1832-1836 (William C. Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form, Straight Rim with Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Brushed Cobalt Tulip. Comes with old, form-fitting lid. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Four small chips inside the rim (1/4" to 3/8"), a 1/2" surface craze line on top of the left handle (closeup), and overall light staining. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Lid has a 3/16" flake on the underside. Otherwise, as made.
