Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the Freehand Capacity Number "4" Framed by a Large Wreath with Bottom Bow. The decoration is executed with a slip cup with precision. Stands 16 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple minor nibbles on the inner lid-seating ring and some light scattered staining from use. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
