Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar stamped "Jordan."
The decoration and capacity number indicate that it was made by Sidney Norton who started and ran the first pottery in Jordan somewhere between 1825 and 1855 (William C. Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900. 2nd ed. pp. 299-301).
This beauty features an Ovoid Shape, Rounded Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Decoration at the Terminals, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral with Ground Cover and Stem with Two Dangling Dotted Blossoms. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some light scattered staining. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 1" surface firing line at the base in the making.
