Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare Merchant Jar made for "A. J. Stephens, Dealer in General M'D'SE, Near Rock Castle, W. VA." The jar form, color, and stenciling indicates that it was most likely made by James Hamilton of Greensboro, PA.
This jar is from a rural general store not near any population center except Rock Castle which is not even a town today. It was located SW of Ripley, WV and NW of Kenna, WV in a very rural area.
This beauty features a Top and Bottom Stripe that Frame the 6 Lines of Delicate, Clear, and Crisp Advertising. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
Good Condition. Minor nibbles around the inner rim where a lid would sit, a minor small crow's foot on the back, and a glued line on the front that wraps under as shown. No top rim or base chips, or stains.
