Item 11869
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made for the grocery merchant "E. A. Buck, & Co., 18 Blackstone St., Boston, Mass."
As the bird decoration indicates, this jug was probably made by William and Gilbert Ottman who ran a pottery in Fort Edward, N.Y. from 1872-1892 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 68).
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Merchant Advertising Stamped on the Shoulder with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Bird on a Large Leaf Below. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some chipping around the spout. Otherwise, as made!
