Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the Freehand Capacity Number "2" Framed by a Large Wreath with Bottom Bow. The decoration is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two chips on the bottom of the left side in the making, with part of one containing a 3/8" chip post-manufacture. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
