Item 11876

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."

This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware , pp. 69-70).

Dating about 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Paddletail Bird on an Orchid Branch. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors. An abundance of rich cobalt blue.  The bird is 8" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail.  The branch has two striped leaves. Brilliant cobalt throughout the decoration.  Measures 9" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  A 2" hairline from the rim behind the left handle (closeup 1), restoration for a 1/2" chip on the rim in front of the right handle (closeup 2), and chipping under the right handle.  No inner rim or base chips, cracks, or stains.
