Item 11871
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the Whites of Utica, N.Y. family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Floral Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt. Lots of detail in the floral. I have always thought the left side looked like a butterfly had landed. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Good Condition. Three chips on the back of the rim (1/2" to 3/4"), some restoration to the back of the left handle, some minor nibbles on the base, and water glass staining inside and out. No inner rim chips, hairlines, or cracks.
