Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Merchant Jar made for "John A. Rathbone, Dealer in General Merchandise, Palestine, W. VA." 

 

The decoration on this jar indicates that it was made by T. F. Reppert, Greensboro, ,Pennsylvania.

 

Circa 1880, this beauty features a Broad Cobalt Stripe defining the Rim, Two Stripes Embellishing the Shoulder, The Company Advertising Occupying the Middle, and the Freehand Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves and Underscored by another Stripe Completing the Decoration at the Bottom.  All the cobalt is dark and the stencil complete.  Stands 12" tall.

 

Excellent Condition. A single 1/4" flake on the bottom fold of the tooled rim.  Otherwise, as made!
