Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock that reads, "Manufactured by Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Rare Small Size, Tooled Rim with Groove for Helping to Tie a Cover Over the Top, and the Company Advertising in Five Lines. The stencil is complete and clear. Measures only 5" tall and 6 1/4" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A chip on the front bottom edge as shown. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
