Item 12021

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jar made by "Knotts, Swindler, & Co., Palatine, W. VA."  (modern Fairmont)

(How unfortunate to be in business with a last name of Swindler!)

Circa 1875, this beauty features the Jar Form with Semi-Squared Rim with Cobalt Stripe Accent, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, the Company Advertising in an Arch in the Middle Surrounding an Emblem, the Capacity Number Toward the Bottom, and a Broad Cobalt Stripe at the Bottom.  Nice light gray glaze typical of Palatine stoneware.  Stands 14 3/4" tall.

Now the clincher.  The decorator added 177 dots!  They form a double arch at the top, a frame around the company advertising, four stripes within the advertising, a circle around the capacity number, and a tornado on each side of the number.  Wow!

Very Good Condition.  Restoration to the front of both handles.  A tight hairline on the left side from the base to the handle shaped like a Y on top of a Y (closeup) that wraps under 4" (closeup).  Otherwise, as made.
