Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the Freehand Capacity Number "4" Framed by a Large Wreath with Bottom Bow. The decoration is executed with a slip cup with precision. Stands 15" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1 1/4" shallow chip on the rim above the left handle as shown and some staining on the back on the rim and base. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
