Item 12366
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Chicken Pecking Corn.
This is likely the work of Samuel Brady and John J. Ryan who ran their pottery in Ellenville, N.Y. from 1878-1897 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 66).
This beauty features a Classic Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration. The decoration is executed with a slip cup in shiny cobalt. The chicken is nice;y centered and accented with dots. There are 18 pieces of corn too! (apparently I do not have enough to do!). Measures 9 3/4" tall and 9 12" wide across the top.
The chicken that posed for this crock met her demise on July 7, 1881 when she became Sunday dinner!
Excellent Condition. Three small chips inside the rim (1/8" to 3/8") and a 3/8" chip under the left handle. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
