Item 11480

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."

This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).

This beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Running Bird with Fantail Poised on a Branch.  The bird is executed with bright and shiny cobalt.  One of the better and larger examples of this signature decoration that you will see.  Stands 17 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1 1/4" line on the left side of the handle where it is attached to the body (closeup 1), and a 3 1/2" surface vertical craze line on the left side center (closeup 1). No spout or base chips, body hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 1/2" chip on the base is in the making and glazed over.
