Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Decorated Jug. 
 
The shape of the spout and handle, and the leaf decoration indicate that it was made in Alexandria, Virginia in the first half of the 19th century.  It was likely made by the merchant Hugh C. Smith who made pottery at his Wilkes Street Pottery from 1830-1833, or B. C. Milburn who bought his pottery and made pottery there from 1833 to about 1850 (Eddie Wilder, Alexandria, Virginia Pottery 1792-1876 , pp. 91, 125-178). 
 
This beauty features the Alexandrian Spout and Handle and Leaf Motif Three Times around the Shoulder.  A light gray clay contrasts well with the cobalt leaves.  Stands 10" tall.  
 
Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" chip inside the spout.  That's it! No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
