Item 8337
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar with Whimsical Decoration.
As near as I can determine, this beauty comes from Virginia. It has a form similar to pieces made by John Heatwole of Rockingham County and decoration similar to that by John Schermerhorn of Henrico County. The exact potter excapes my grasp.
Circa 1850, this beauty features an Ovoid Form with Tall and Slightly Flared Rim, Grooved Applied Handles, Freehand Capacity Numbers Under Each Handle, and Whimsical Florals with Lots of Panache. Blossoms and swirls aplenty. Stands 12 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three 1/4" chips on one handle. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
