Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "C. E. Pharis, Geddes, N.Y."
Pharis made stoneware in Geddes (near Syracuse) from 1864 to 1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 70).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, the Capacity Number riding a Tornado, and a Brushed Cobalt Leaf. Bright and shiny cobalt throughout. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Small chips and wear around the inner lid seating ring, three chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), and a 1/2" chip at the base. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Four 1" to 2" vertical surface firing lines at the base in the making.
