Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "G. S. Guy & Co., Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the work of George S. Guy who worked in Fort Edward from 1882 to 1892 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and Two Birds Poised on Branches. The birds have long tailfeathers and their branches are quite elaborate. The decoration is drawn with a slip cup in brilliant cobalt blue. Measures 11 1/4" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the rim above the left handle, a narrow 3/8" chip under the right handle, two surface chips on the back bottom partially in the making (1/2", 1 1/4"), and some light staining from use. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
