Item 11114

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."

This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Fantail Bird poised on the Branch of an Orchid.  The bird is a full 10 1/2" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tailfeathers.  Bright and shiny cobalt flowing from a slip cup was used to create this little guy.  Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  Three small chips inside the rim (1/8" to 3/8"), four outside the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), and a couple nibbles at the base.  A vertical 6" surface-only y-shaped craze line on the back (closeup).  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
