Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Magisterial Floral Decoration that Fills the Front. The floral consists of five large and veiny leaves with buds and a couple blossoms peaking out inbetween. The decoration was created with a slip cup using bright and shiny cobalt. Measures 12 1/2" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Residual water glass staining inside, and some light staining outside. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
