Item 6370
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Branch Executed with a Slip Cup. The cobalt is dark and shiny like we have come to expect from Bennington stoneware. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Kiln touch by the neck of the bird in the making.
