Item 1023
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this terrific 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Huge Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The artist used the large canvas to impress us with his or her artistic skills. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. A shallow 5/8" chip on the right side of the spout toward the handle, and some light staining near the bottom. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 3/16" iron ping on the back of the bird's head in the making (closeup).
