Coming to you from Doc's Crocks  is this imposing 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."

 

This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)

 

This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Branch in Strong Cobalt.  The bird is 8 1/2" from the tip of his or her beak to the tip of the tail feathers.   Stands 13 1/4" tall.

 

Excellent Condition.  A narrow 1 3/8" chip on the bottom edge in the back (closeup) and some staining from use.  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
