    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."

     

    This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).

     

    This beauty sports the Preserve Jar Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral with Lots of Flurries!  Wisps of cobalt are going in all directions! Stands 10 3/4" tall.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  Minor nibbles on the inner lid-seating ring, a surface ping line on the rim on the left side (closeup), and a 1/4" chip on the each side of the bottom of the left handle.  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A kiln hotspot on the back in the making.
