    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."

     

    This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)

     

    This beauty sports a Larger Size, Thick Rim, Clear Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Bird Perched on a Bouquet of Flowers.  Measures 12 1/2" tall and wide across the top.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  Some water glass rings inside in the middle, two chips inside the rim (1/4", 5/8") and a minor 1/4" nibble outside the rim, a 1/2" surface ping line on the left handle and a 6" hairline from the rim behind the same handle, a couple surface craze lines on the body and underside, and some small chips around the base edge.  No stains, or restoration.
