Item 5062
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Exuberant Double Floral that Goes in All Directions! Ballard decorators loved to loop the leaves and flowers in their artistry! Vibrant and Shiny Cobalt. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A minor nibble on the left handle, a 1/2" chip on the right handle, and a spot of glaze loss on the bottom on the right side toward the back (closeup). No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A narrow 1" chip on top of the rim from separation from the crock above it in the kiln. Slightly oval at the top in the making.
