Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "M. Woodruff, Cortland."
This is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand "2" Capacity Number, and a Large Freehand Brushed Cobalt Tulip that Covers the Entire Front! The tulip has three leaves and a blossom with four petals in shiny cobalt. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A faint 1" hairline above the left handle (closeup), and a hairline on the same side from below the handle to the base (darker line). No chips, cracks, or restoration.
