Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "L. Norton & Co., Bennington."
This is the mark of Luman Norton who worked the family pottery in Bennington, Vermont from 1828 to 1833 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 42).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Squared Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Two Brushed Cobalt Tulips. Additional cobalt accent on the bottom handle terminal. Stands 13" tall.
Very Good Condition. Staining from use. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. What looks like a chip on the rim is a push-in in the making and glazed over.
