Item 1168
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Merchant Jug made for "James Hetherington, 398 Greenwich St., New York."
The bird design indicates that the jug was made by Samuel Brady and John J. Ryan who ran their pottery in Ellenville, New York from 1878-1897 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 66).
This beauty features the Merchant Advertising with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Branch in Bright Cobalt Blue. Stands 17 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two small and light stains. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The bottom is slightly convex in the making and it rocks a bit when first set down.
As you know, larger NYC merchant jugs with decoration are hard to find!
