Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "Morton & Sheldon, Jordan."
It is stamped, "Norton and Sheldon, Jordan." Sidney Norton started the first pottery in Jordan and took Franklin Sheldon as a partner somewhere between 1840 and 1845 (William C. Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900. 2nd ed. pp. 299-301).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Swipes, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Three Dotted Blossoms. Stands 14" tall.
This is one of the earliest pieces to be found from Jordan and very hard to find.
Excellent Condition. Aged surface. No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
