Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Cluster of Four Leaves Executed with a Slip Cup. The center leaf is veined, the two side leaes are dotted, and the small one hanning below is both. Measures and a Flower created with a Slip Cup. The flower has 2 fern-like leaves and a triangular blossom with rounded edges that encases the 2 capacity number. Dark cobalt. Measures 9 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Some staining from use and marker on the bottom. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A surface scratch in the Albany slip before firing and not a crack (closeup).
