Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher made and stamped by "Burger & Lang, Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr., George Burger, and their brother-in-law, George Lang who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1867 to 1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Tall and Narrow Form with Squared Rim, Pinched Spout, Bulbous Body, Impressed Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Cobalt Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral sports five leaves and two buds with shading and accenting. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A 1 1/2" surface only drying/firing line on the right side at the bottom in the making and glazed over (closeup).
