Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar with Lid made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Blue Bird on a Branch Decoration in Shiny Cobalt. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Wear and a 1/4" chip on the inner lid-seating ring, three 1/4" chips inside the rim, a 1/2" chip under the left handle and on the underside near the edge. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
