Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."

This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Fantastic Floral.  The flower has four leaves that look like a butterfly and a blossom with seven large overlapping petals.  All the decoration is accented with an abundance of interior scroll accents.  The cobalt is thick, rich and shiny.  What's more, the decoration really fills the front of the crock.   Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  Very minor nibbles and two chips inside the rim (1/4", 7/8"), a 3/8" chip outside the rim, two faint crow's feet surface lines on the back, and some staining from use.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A 1" stone ping inside the rim in the making.
