Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Superb Floral Bouquet in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The floral features 8 leaves, 5 blossoms, and accent dots. Did I mention the quality of the cobalt! Stunning! Stands 17" tall. Comes with what may be the original churn guide.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/4" chip on the inner lid-seating ring, and a narrow 1/2" chip on the back at the bottom. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/4" stone ping on the stem of the tallest blossom in the making. The churn guide has a 3/8" chip on the top edge. Otherwise, as made.
