Item 8900

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 4 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.

This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).

This beauty sports a Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash,  and a Huge Bird on a Branch in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue.   The artist used his large canvas to impress us with one of the largest and brightest birds on a Norton Jug.  Stands 18" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" flake on top of the spout, two small chips on the bottom (1/4", 1/2"), small 1/2" sliver chip on the very bottom right side of the handle, and some small isolated stains.  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
