Item 11702

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."

This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Stylized Floral which I call the "Flying Tomato" Decoration.  It is executed with a slip cup using rich cobalt.   Stands 10 1/2" tall.

Very Good Condition.  A half-dozen small flakes inside the rim (1/4" or less), and a nearly invisible 3"  horizontal hairline at the base.  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
