    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."   

     

    This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).  

     

    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Double Floral Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark and Shiny Cobalt.  A stem with 18 leaves supports two striped blossoms.  Stands 11" tall. 

     

    Very Good Condition.  Some staining around the bottom half. Otherwise as made!  Some scattered fine bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
