Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Gorgeous, Detailed Bouquet of Flowers in Dark, Rich, and Shiny Cobalt. Center blossoms are enveloped with a plethora of leaves and dots. Stands 11" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip inside the rim, a narrow 1" chip on the left handle, a faint 1" hairline on the rim above the pottery stamp (closeup), and a small stain on the left side. No outer rim chips, body hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
