Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Larger 3 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped by J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features a Larger Size for a Cream Pot, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Bird on a Branch Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. Measures 9" tall and 11 3/4" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A faint 1 1/2" hairline from the rim to the left handle (closeup), a chip on the underside at the edge as shown (2 1/4" by 3/4"), and some light stains from use. No rim chips, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping on the underside in the making as shown.
