Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Fancy Cobalt Floral Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has an open rose, leaves, and lots of dots! Beautiful rich and shiny cobalt. Stands 16" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" glaze flake on the bottom right of the floral and on the left side. That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Four 1" vertical drying/firing lines at the base in the making. Very clean example.
