    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."


    This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).


    This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Fancy Cobalt Floral Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup.  The floral has an open rose, leaves, and lots of dots!  Beautiful rich and shiny cobalt.  Stands 16" tall.   


    Excellent Condition.   A 1/4" glaze flake bottom right of the floral and on the left side.  That's it!  No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Four 1" vertical firing lines at the base in the making.  Very clean example.
