Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 42).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Norton Bird on a Branch Decoration. Dark and rich cobalt too! Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A shallow 1/2" chip on the spout back by the handle and a couple small stains. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A couple stone pings in the making.
