Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 42).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Norton Bird on a Branch Decoration. Stands 11" tall.
Very Good Conditon. A 1/4" nibble on the spout and some glaze wear above the bird. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some bubbling in the thickest portion of the cobalt and some kiln touches in the making.
