Item 11883

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful decorated 1 Gallon Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and Three Brushed Cobalt Florals around the Middle.  The flowers have ten to twelve leaves and two blossoms with two petals.  All the cobalt is thick, rich and dark and set against a medium gray glaze to make a very pleasant contrast.  Stands 10 1/2" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Two chips outside the rim and a faint hairline across the underside (8 0'clock to 4 o'clock in the picture).  No inner rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A stone ping on the rim and a small kiln touch on one blossom in the making.
