Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Gorgeous, Detailed Bouquet of Flowers in Dark, Rich, and Shiny Cobalt. The center blossom is enveloped with a plethora of leaves and dots. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor wear around the inner lid seating ring and inside the rim, two short surface craze lines by the right ear (closeup), and a few scattered small flakes on the body. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
