Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this impressive 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."


This is the mark of Edward Norton who ran the Norton Pottery in Bennington from 1881-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).


This beauty features a Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Freehand Stylized Floral Bouquet.  The cobalt is shiny and really stands out!  Stands 13 1/2" tall.


Excellent Condition.  Three small chips (1/4" to 1/2") and a 1/2" surface line at the base, and some light staining from use.  That's it!  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A couple 1" vertical firing lines at the base in the back in the making.
