Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Substantial Stylized Floral in Bright Cobalt Executed with a Slip Cup. Stands 17" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 6" semi-circular surface craze line below the handle (closeup 1), and a 3 1/2" drying or firing line on the back bottom in the making. No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
