Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Bird on a Leaf Executed with a Brush in Strong Cobalt. The birdie is 10" from from the tip of its beak to the tip of its tailfeathers. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 2" chip on the bottom at the edge that shows a little on the right side (closeup). That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
