Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Splendid 1 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar stamped "Cortland."

 

The decoration indicates that this is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).

 

This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Double Tulip with Three Dotted Leaves on the Front. Stands 9 1/4" tall.

 

Good Condition. Chips on the inner rim seating ring (closeup), wear spot on the back, and some staining from use.  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
